Yoga with Gita: Winter Practice

Enjoy a gentle and relaxed practice to help you find harmony with the winter season! Movement, breathing, and deep relaxation await!

In this class we explore a bit of breathing called pranayama. Prana means life force; as you know, your breath keeps you alive! A regular practice of yoga that includes pranayama helps boost our health, emotions, and keep our energy levels even. How in the world does this work? Well, yama means "to direct"...so if you add prana and yama together you get "direct your life force". Sounds good, right? To be able to manage our health and emotions with the breath is one of our most powerful tools. And we have it with us all the time which is great news, because it means we can practice frequently!

On a physical level, taking deep and steady breaths provides more oxygen to the body. More oxygen means that the body can process and eliminate cellular waster more efficiently, activates the parasympathetic nervous system which helps us feel more calm, lowers blood pressure, and reduces stress which in turn helps increase immunity.

Relax and breathe!
